Background

Can you increase savings behaviour amongst millennials?

Galgal wanted to build a money app that felt radically different friendly, intuitive, and emotionally engaging for India’s Gen Z and millennial users. But designing a financial product that didn’t feel like a bank required more than sleek UI. They partnered with TinkerLabs to bring in behavioural science and design thinking to craft an experience that was not just functional, but habit-forming, emotionally resonant, and fun to use.

Approach

A 5-week sprint to arrive at a set of features for the tool, that we got users to vote on.

  • We conducted research with 14 users, analysing their financial behaviours from the time money hits their bank account, until their next pay check
  • We arrived at a set of feature ideas to nudge users to save more money & got users to design their own bank / personal finance tool. Thereby getting to see which type of features were getting traction - and deep-dived into why those features were popular

Key Strategic Lever

While most finance apps were focused on making it easier to spend & invest your money, we aimed to position & design Galgal as a tool that will help you squeeze the most out of your money.

Output

We then presented our findings to VacuumLabs, a world-leading app design company based out of Bratislava, to build out these features. The Galgal app is now live, having received $1 million in funding in 2023. And partnering with Cosmos Co-op Bank in 2024.
